Continue with the Technological Exchange Program related to the protection and management of terrestrial and aquatic species

Sonora will develop the Management of the Wild Turkey plan.

Steps Taken: SON completed 50% of the plan. AZ provided technical information.

Tactic B

Sonora and Arizona will continue with the implementation of research and management projects on the management of aquatic wildlife in shared basins, Sonoran pronghorn, black tailed prairie dog, and collared peccary.

Steps Taken: For the aquatic wildlife in shared basins: • AZ and SON developed a framework document to guide research and conservation efforts in the shared basins • AZ is collaborating with the University of Sonora in implementing native fish surveys in 2013 For the Sonoran pronghorn: • AZ and SON participated during the Recovery Team meetings • Both states exchanged technical and scientific information • AZ managed wild (159 individuals) and captive (79 individuals) populations For the black-tailed prairie dog: • AZ and SON conducted BTPD population assessments on each state • Management of BTPD populations in Arizona and Sonora include • Both states exchanged technical and scientific information For the mule deer: • AZ assisted SON on the methodology and techniques used for mule deer aerial surveys • SON initiated aerial surveys on January 2013 For the collared peccary: • AZ successfully transferred 30 peccaries to a conservation ranch in northern Sonora

Promote sport hunting and fishing between Sonora and Arizona through participation in wildlife expos and conventions and tournaments.

Steps Taken: SON completed its 2012 wild turkey hunt tournament and is organizing the 2013 event AZ completed the 2012 Outdoors Expo and is organizing the March 23-24, 2013 event

Continue to strengthen the Consejo de Agronegocios de Sonora in cooperation with the Agri-Business Council of Arizona.

A joint conference with Agri-Business Council of Arizona and Water Committees of the Sonora-Arizona (Arizona Mexico commission) to be held in Mexico.

Steps Taken: The Agri-Business Council of Arizona and counterparts in Sonora communicate on a regular basis. Currently, the council in Sonora is meeting regularly coordinating and organizing. They are now waiting on their federal, state and university elected officials to be appointed so they know who they will be working with. They then will know how to expand their actions and latitude. The Consejo was promised that they would continue to have support form elected officials in their efforts to form their Council and work with ABC on mutually beneficial activities.

What: Deepwater Port Expands Tourism and Trade
Pillars: Trade
In 1959, early AMC accomplishments included a survey of seaports that called attention to Guaymas, Sonora, as a port for future development. In 2004, an AMC Transportation Committee study investigated and assessed the viability of the Port of Guaymas as a potential maritime addition to the Canamex Corridor. In 2008, cruise ships began docking in the now deepwater port.
