Arizona lost a great leader with the passing of William K. Brooks. An Arizona native, Will was born in Somerton and raised in the Yuma/San Luis area. He was known in his community for being a passionate and unwavering advocate for Arizona. Last June, Governor Doug Ducey honored Will with the Arizona-Mexico Commission's Tony Certósimo Award at the 2017 AMC Summit for his promotion and support of the Arizona-Mexico relationship.

Will was committed to the service of his state and country; he began his federal government service with the former U.S. Customs Service (USCS) in 1983 at the Port of Calexico, California. During his 30 plus years of service with USCS and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), he held multiple leadership positions, including Port Director of the Port of Andrade, California and Port Director of the Port of San Luis, Arizona. Prior to joining USCS, Will served as Deputy Sheriff for the Yuma County Sheriff's office.

Will was a staple in our community, always answering the call to serve. In service to state and country, Will's leadership and forward vision directly impacted the competitiveness and safety of Arizona's borders, giving way to innovative programs, like the Unified Cargo Processing (UCP) program. He was an integral part of the UCP concept becoming a permanent fixture in our ports of entry - now Mexican customs officials work side-by-side with CBP officers to inspect and process cargo destined for the United States. His dedication and commitment to securing our nation's borders while facilitating the flow of trade and job creation were unparalleled. Will leaves behind a legacy that will live on through his tireless efforts and trailblazing work.

Please join us in keeping Will and the Brooks family in our thoughts and prayers.
